Portraiture has been part of my practice in some form since the early days of my practice, and indeed have become a core element in the structure of and narrative of most of my exhibitions.

However I was first asked to make a formal portrait in 1996, when I was commissioned by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery to make a portrait of Scottish composer Sir James Macmillan. Since then I have embarked on numerous portrait works, some commissioned, some through my own interests. These portraits have included historical and contemporary figures, some of which are represented here.
