Featured Artwork: Death and Dr Hornbook
The latest in a line of Burns related imagery, recently completed (Sept 2021) in the midst of the pandemic. The work takes it’s impetus from from Burns’ 1786 satirical poem of the same name, in which the poet meets Death, who complains about being forced out of business by Jock Hornbook, whose medicines are either saving lives which would normally belong to him or are killing off far more people than he ever can. The work dwells upon the creative life, the potential for decay and renewal, and hints at the brevity and beauty of the journey.
